The Story Behind Anna Koot
In ancient Vrindavan, the villagers prepared a grand spread to thank Lord Indra for the rains. But young Krishna asked them a simple question: the mountain that fed their cows deserved the gratitude. So the people of Vrindavan offered their food to Govardhan Hill instead and Krishna revealed Himself as the hill, eating every offering with delight.
When Indra's storm raged in anger, seven-year-old Krishna lifted the entire hill on one little finger, sheltering every villager, cow and calf beneath it for seven days. Annakoot "a mountain of food" is celebrated every year on the day after Diwali to remember that the Lord Himself protects those who share their food.
"No one within ten miles of our temple should go hungry."
