About Akshaya Chaitanya
Akshaya Chaitanya is a Mumbai-based initiative dedicated to eradicating hunger while fostering better healthcare and education for the underprivileged. Inspired by the Sanskrit principles of “Akshaya” (everlasting) and “Chaitanya” (consciousness), we provide hot, nutritious, and locally palatable meals. These meals, prepared in our state-of-the-art FSSAI-compliant kitchen in Byculla, not only combat hunger but also ease the financial burden of outside food for the poor, enabling these underserved communities to prioritize health and education.

Financial Struggle Amidst Medical Crisis: A Parent's Heartfelt Journey
“My son is admitted here for kidney stone treatment costing around ₹15,000, which I can't afford. I borrowed money for treatment, but daily travel from Mankhud to the hospital is expensive. I can't travel by train, so I take a bus or autorickshaw, which adds to the cost. I can't afford restaurant food or go home for lunch, so I skip meals, making me weak."
Relieved by Akshaya Chaitanya's Free Lunch Service: A Father's Story of Gratitude and Hope
“When my wife was admitted to the hospital for the delivery of our second child, I didn't know what to feed our 9-year-old son, Yash. I can't cook and can't afford restaurant food, so we depended on street food like vada pav. I was happy about our second child but worried about Yash's health due to the unhealthy diet. When I heard about Akshaya Chaitanya’s free lunch service, I was relieved to feed him a good, nutritious lunch."
Sole Breadwinner's Daily Struggle: Alcoholism and Financial Hardship
“Her mother is a housewife and her father is a construction worker and the sole breadwinner of the family, earning somewhere between 300-400 rupees a day. As an alcoholic he spends most of his daily earnings on alcohol, which leaves the family to fend for themselves. He takes back home barely enough to survive a hand to mouth life. ”
Struggling in Subhas Nagar: A Family's Journey for Survival
“She lives with her grandmother in an overcrowded slum called Subhas Nagar located in Jogeshwari, Mumbai. Her parents work in Amravati as sugarcane harvesting workers to make their ends meet. They travel to many places all over Maharashtra just to earn their daily bread. Finding work is a difficult task for them at times.”
Relief Beyond Treatment: Nourishment, Comfort, and Care Every Day
“Apart from treatment, we have to spend on medicine, food, and travel too. Each day, we spend around ₹150 for breakfast and dinner. No matter what challenges come by during the day, the free food I receive at lunch time takes away all my stress. At least, this is one time during the day when I can relax and have a homely meal without having to think how much it would cost. And every bite of this meal makes me feel happy and cared for.”
Recognizing the Invisible Heroes: A Call for Compassion Towards Delivery Personnel
"A delivery man braves the hot sun, gets drenched in merciless rain, and manoeuvres his way through chaotic traffic, just so that we receive our packages at our desired address. Yet, we don’t have a moment of compassion for them. And if he happens to meet with an accident, neither he has dispensable money for treatment nor finds anyone offering help! In addition, loses his regular income too."
Despite Health Challenges, Bright Madrasa Student Cherishes Childhood Moments
"He is a student of the Madrasa near his home. He has many friends in the neighbourhood and loves to play with them. He enjoys watching cartoons, and listening to stories from his mother. He is a bright student in the eyes of his teacher. But contrary to his will, he has to miss school at least twice a week and also misses playing with his friends regularly because of his health conditions."
