Rath Yatra 2026
Let the chariot carry not just the Lord's idol, but your act of giving. Offer Anna Daan with Akshaya Chaitanya and feed thousands across Mumbai
The Festival - What is Rath Yatra?
Rath Yatra commemorates the annual journey of Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings Balabhadra and Subhadra, from their abode in the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple, approximately 2 kilometres away. Three massive chariots are built freshly every year, pulled by thousands of devotees through the streets, as the air fills with chants of "Jai Jagannath" and hearts overflow with devotion.
And among the people, the most deserving of divine grace are those who go hungry. This Rath Yatra, let the chariot carry not just the Lord's idol, but your act of giving.
The Spiritual Connection — Anna Daan on Rath Yatra
Lord Jagannath, the Lord of the Universe, is himself deeply connected to the tradition of Mahaprasad — the sacred food offering that flows from his temple to all devotees without distinction of caste, creed, or background. Just as the festival symbolises divine outreach and inclusiveness, feeding the hungry on this day carries that same message forward: that no one — rich or poor, patient or child — should go without a meal.
When you donate on Rath Yatra, you are not performing a ritual. You are living one.

Akshaya Chaitanya believes that the spirit of Rath Yatra finds its truest expression not just on the streets of Puri, but on the streets of Mumbai — in the hospital wards of Sion and KEM, in the classrooms of municipal schools in Dharavi and Govandi, and in the small slum communities where a hot meal is not a given, but a gift.
