The Success Story of Swasthya Ahara Feeding Initiative run by Akshaya Chaitanya

Akshaya Chaitanya is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) with a centralised fully automated kitchen in Byculla, Mumbai. The organisation was founded in 2012 with the mission of eradicating hunger in Mumbai by donating food to the poor. Akshaya Chaitanya aims to address various social issues, including poverty, hunger, education, health and nutrition.
The NGO runs daily feeding programs and initiatives to achieve its mission. Some of the key initiatives of Akshaya Chaitanya include:
Swasthya Ahara: A feeding initiative that provides free, nutritious food to patients and their families in government hospitals who cannot afford to buy food during their hospital stay.
Bal Shiksha Ahara: An educational initiative that provides support to underprivileged children in Government schools by providing breakfast meals. It's different from the midday meals that any NGO provides.
Paushtik Ahara: This is one daily feeding program in Akshaya Chaitanya which donates food to poor children for charity with a mission to fight hunger in Mumbai.
Akshaya Chaitanya has a strong network of volunteers and supporters who work together to make a positive impact in their communities. The organisation also collaborates with other corporate partners to achieve its goals and reach more people. Swasthya Ahara is a feeding initiative run by Akshaya Chaitanya, a non-profit organization in Mumbai, India. The program was launched with only 5 beneficiary hospitals and has been successful in reaching out to thousands of patients and their families in about one years’ time.
The Swasthya Ahara daily feeding program operates in over 19 government hospitals in Mumbai and 2 public hospitals in Thane. Akshaya Chaitanya provides free, hygienic, and nutritious meals to help those who’re fighting hunger in Mumbai. The program donates food to the poor which is cooked in its fully automated kitchen in Byculla, and ensures that the food is fresh and nutritious. The food is prepared in a hygienic and clean environment by trained chefs and volunteers, who ensure that the food is of high quality and meets the nutritional needs of the patients.
One of the key success factors of the Swasthya Ahara daily feeding program is its focus on eradicating hunger and supporting the vulnerable with means and resources to make ends meet. The program not only donates food to the poor relatives of the patients admitted in public hospitals but also supports them to save on additional resources towards medical expenses. Corporate companies like TLC legal, JB pharma, Jewellex India, Shipping Corporation of
India, Reliance Foundation and more have contributed largely to scale up the reach and
beneficiary count of people getting hot and nutritious food under the daily feeding program –
Swasthya Ahara by Akshaya Chaitanya. We were only supporting lunch meals in hospitals
till now but with the recent support from Shipping corporation of India, we are now also
feeding the families dinner across 3 Government hospitals in Mumbai.

The Swasthya Ahara feeding initiative has been widely recognized for its impact and
success. The program has won several awards, including the Global CSR Excellence &
Leadership award 2023 in Mumbai. The success of the program has inspired other
organisations and individuals to launch similar initiatives in their communities, which are also
collectively fighting hunger in Mumbai and addressing the issue of food insecurity in India.
