CSR: Showcasing corporates with a heart full of empathy

India is the first country in the world to make corporate social responsibility (CSR)
mandatory, following an amendment to the Companies Act, 2013 in April 2014. Businesses
can invest their profits in areas such as education, poverty, gender equality, and hunger as
part of any CSR compliance.

At Akshay Chaitanya our humble and supportive partners have helped us continuously to
accomplish our missions. As an NGO in Mumbai, we feel fortunate to have received support
from many generous contributors who identified with our cause and felt the need to step in
as a catalyst. It is their generosity that helps us move forward in our endeavour to make
Mumbai hunger-free. We need more helping hands to make sure each and every person in
this city receives their daily share of food, irrespective of their socio-economic background.

TLC Legal is one of the leading attorney firms in India, specialising in laws relating to Indirect
Taxes and International Trade Policies. TLC has been one of our major supporters when it
comes to our state of the art facility in Byculla. Their support has been constant and Mr.
Vipin Jain from TLC has shared his views on how even single efforts can help in solving
hunger issues in Mumbai.

There’s one more generous organisation – The Jewelex Group that has been at the forefront
of CSR activities for the last 50 years even before it was mandated by law, and reaching out
to the needy communities & underprivileged sections of society. Mr. Hoshang Irani, CSR
Manager, Jewelex Group visited the kitchen in Byculla and came forward to partner with an
NGO for food donation. The Jewelex Group has generously supported the breakfast meal
program – Bal Shiksha Ahara for children going to municipal schools in Mumbai.

One of our most preliminary partners for our Swasthya Ahara Program – JB Chemicals and
Pharmaceuticals. We are happy to share that this is the second year where they have
agreed to extend generous support for feeding the underprivileged relatives of patients being
treated at the Government Hospitals through our feeding program. Mr. Savya Sachi from JB
Chemicals highlights the importance of a nutritional meal and how substantial a balanced
meal is for living a healthy life for people.
Illness can be fought with only nutritious food and care along with good medical facilities.

CSR can be beneficial to a company in several ways. The first is by improving its brand
image. When customers or clients see evidence that a business is socially responsible, they
tend to respond positively. This fuels the society towards growth and prosperity and the
organisation can also claim Tax benefits under 80 G from the Government

Akshaya Chaitanya is one such NGO in Mumbai that has the facility with a capacity to feed
over 25,000 people at a time and we are always open to more and more corporates with a
heart full of empathy to come join us in our mission to make Mumbai free from hunger.

It could be just another CSR activation for you, but it could make a difference for a lifetime
when someone who is used to going without food gets the security of one healthy and
nutritious meal a day.
