Key Observance Days in Pitru Paksha
1. Mahalaya Amavasya (Oct 3, 2025)
Most important day of Pitru Paksha to perform Sarvapi ~tri Daan (universal ancestral donation) and Mahaanugraha Shraddha rituals done before Amavasya Tithi ends
2. Somvati Amavasya (If it falls during Pitru Paksha)
In 2025, Amavasya is on Friday (Somvar), making Somvati Amavasya especially significant. Perform water offerings to all ancestors (Sarva Tarpan)
3. Saturdays
Saturdays are respected days for Shraddha, as they’re ruled by Shani (Saturn). Recommended for Tarpan and Pind Daan rituals.
4. Daily Shraddha Days (Sept 16–Oct 3)
You can perform shraddha everyday with minimal offerings. Food distribution (food donation) is considered a valid Shraddha act
🕒 Tithi-Specific Timings (Muhurta)
Each tithi spans 24 hours from sunrise to the next day’s sunrise, but for rituals:
- Perform Shraddha during Pratah Sandhya (morning twilight, ideal time) or Pradosh Sandhya (evening),
- On Mahalaya Amavasya, the entire Paksha is focused on Amavasya, thus morning muhurta is highly exalted
- Tithi charts differ by timezone—refer to local Panchang or use apps like Drik Panchang
