The Impact of Bal Shiksha Ahara Feeding Initiative

On 4th March 2022, Shri. Aaditya Thackeray and Smt. Kishori Pednekar inaugurated the centralised community kitchen and officially launched the Bal Shiksha Ahara feeding initiative run by Akshaya Chaitanya – an NGO in Mumbai.

Bal Shiksha Ahara is a free breakfast Programme primarily concentrated on providing hot and nutritious breakfast to the underprivileged children of Municipal Schools in Mumbai across diverse mediums like English, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and Urdu.

The need to launch an initiative that actively works for feeding children was realised when school going kids were observed to be attending school classes without breakfast for hours. This not only had an impact on their health but also on their physical and intellectual growth.

Breakfast kick-starts your metabolism and nourishes the body with vital nutrients required through the day. It also gives you the energy you need to get things done and helps you focus at school.

With the grace of God, we are currently serving 50+ schools where 6500+ students are being fed hot and nutritious breakfast every day.

Hunger is a common occurrence in parts of the nation where the cost of living is high. Giving food for free to the vulnerable ensures that those who deserve the basic rights are given their share without a struggle. At Akshaya Chaitanya, we believe that healthy school meals should be available to all students so they have an unbiased opportunity to make the most of their life by acquiring education with 100% concentration.

Our Breakfast meals are designed to meet nutrition standards and promote healthy eating. In a nation like India, where diet-related diseases are rampant, food education is widely recognized as a crucial contributor to health. Our sattvic, millet-based menu offers a variety of dishes making food enjoyable for children on a daily basis.

Free breakfast meal also acts as incentive for the children to attend school regularly and on time. The teachers used to complain that kids cannot focus in the classroom if they’re hungry, and to end the classroom hunger, we ensure that healthy and nutritious breakfast is given to the kids attending Government schools. According to the teachers, a well-fed child is happier and more attentive in the classroom.

Providing access to nutritious food will go beyond just offering nutrition. Bal Shiksha Ahara Programme aids in the nourishment of the underprivileged children fostering optimal growth and development. Food donation could help you do your bit to contribute towards social well-being.

We, at Akshaya Chaitanya, are striving to make this city of Mumbai, truly hunger free by feeding the poor and vulnerable so that they can focus on acquiring knowledge, be productive and eventually open up possibilities to transform their lives.
